Whether you’re looking for an epic coastal walk or that spectacular holiday picture, not all locations are equal. So where should you head for in search of somewhere truly beautiful this year? Here are eight stunningly unique places to visit in North Devon, guaranteed to take your breath away.

1. Morte Point

Just to the north end of the famous Woolacombe Beach, this vantage point delivers a heady mix of big skies, blue waters and craggy character. Fine territory for a walk with a picnic!

2. Valley of the Rocks

Image titleOk, so we’re biased because it’s right on our doorstep and, yes, we featured it in our previous blog on Lynmouth and Lynton. But how often do you find such Jurassic scenery with its own colony of feral goats and one of our prettiest coastal towns all within the same small area?

3. Damien Hirst's Verity Statue, Ilfracombe

Dramatic. Daring. Beautiful. Ugly. Challenging. We can’t say for sure whether you will love this Damien Hirst statue or not, but the one certainty is that you’ll have an opinion! And even if you don't see the pretty side of this famous sculpture, the surrounding coast path has plenty of natural beauty on offer.

4. Watermouth Castle and Bay

Image titleAn elegant heritage alongside wild scenery. The South West Coast Path will take you right across the bay, with fine views of Watermouth Cove. Meanwhile the castle itself is also open to visitors, whether you fancy funfair rides or a peaceful walk in the gardens.

5. Dunkery Beacon, Exmoor

Image titleThere are too many dramatic spots to mention on our nearest national park, but this is the highest point for epic views. Or for a completely different perspective, why not visit at night for commanding views in the heart of this Dark Sky Reserve?

6. Wimbleball Lake

With its blankets of wildflowers, pretty walks and great open waters, this manmade lake is full of natural beauty. Not that it’s all about the views though, because this is also a great place to come kayaking, sailing or walking. For more information on this site, see: https://www.southwestlakes.co.uk/location/wimbleball-lake/

7. Baggy Point

Image titleJutting rocks, rolling waves and massive open skies greet the explorer in this beautiful location. Cute it isn’t; try spectacular! Popular for walking and also a noted sea fishing spot, it is also a special National Trust site: https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/baggy-point

8. “Tarka” country on the River Taw

For sweeping estuary views and miles of level cycle paths (aka “the Tarka Trail”) to explore, this is a great destination to spend a day. Try Tarka Cycle Hire to borrow some wheels for a few hours and explore the Taw estuary.
