We all need nature in our lives and there’s no better place to get it than the stunning landscape of North Devon. National Trust rangers have organised a day of ’50 Things to do before you are 11 3/4’s’ to take children on an epic journey through the great outdoors.
There’ll be walks and activities throughout the day, inspiring the next generation to keep adventuring. Heddon Valley offers an amazing setting for any outdoor adventure and this event gives some surprising insights into Britain’s hidden wildlife.
There’s no cost, just meet the rangers outside Heddon Valley National Trust shop at 11:00am on either the 8th or 11th of August.
Lynmouth Raft Race, Lynmouth (11thAugust)
With the weather beautiful and Lynmouth’s waters even more so, Lynmouth Raft Race is a great day for any budding raft engineers (or supportive spectators) looking for some seaside entertainment.
You’ll see the whole village come together for a huge parade down to the harbour ready for this annual spectacle. Eager sailors will race their makeshift rafts out of the historic harbour, meanwhile dodging spectator-thrown flour bombs as they go. Awards will be given to the first crew to finish as well as – for the less unsuccessful – the first to sink.
There’s something for everyone on this spectacular day of sun, sea and sinking sailors.
The event runs between 4:30-6:30 with food and drink available all day. For more information on how to sign-up your team, visit the website.
